Understanding Boot
Cash Boot: Any cash you receive from the exchange that is not reinvested in replacement property.
Mortgage Boot: Occurs when your new mortgage is less than your old mortgage, effectively giving you debt relief.
Total Boot: The sum of cash boot and mortgage boot. Boot is generally taxable as part of your capital gain.
